Family fun in Sin City.

Photo Phinish Phriday VI

It’s time to bring back Photo Phinish Phriday. Sorry for the delay on announcing the last round’s winner (Congrats Miss Amber!). I’ve been having a few issues with photo transfer. So now those are fixed and we’re back!

Here’s this week’s image.

Win a $20 gift card to Borders Books by leaving  your caption suggestion in the comments by Thursday, June 4 at noon. I pick the one I like best and announce it on Friday, June 5. Have fun!

P.S. Oh, and don’t forget to vote for me at the GoCityKids.com Best Local Blog for Las Vegas. You don’t have to be a parent or from Vegas to vote for me.  You can vote once a day. Help a girl out, folks.  There’s slime on the line.

Going Solo (Part II)

iStock_000002114378XSmall

Well, this post elicited more comments than I’ve seen on a single post in quite some time. It’s hard to tell whether it’s that you all had break-up songs at the ready because of your heart-breaking lives or if you just REALLY wanted the prize. Either way, we ended up with quite the list to drive you over the edge after your next relationship’s end.

Load up your iTunes and start downloading, because, here’s the playlist.

I Don’t Want You Back (F( )ck It) by Eamon.

Sammi suggested “Seasons in the Sun” by Terry Jacks.

Sara wants “Fire Door” by Ani Difranco.

Teagan Blackthorne asked for Tiffany’s “Could Have Been”.

Ian went old school with “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” from Paul Simon.

Teagan Blackthorne was back with Alanis Morisette’s “You Outta Know”; Avril Lavigne’s “So Much for My Happy Ending”; REM’s “The One I Love”; “Can’t Stand Losing You” by The Police; Green Day’s “Good Riddance” and (because she knows how to ingratiate herself to me) Ben Folds Five’s  “Song for the Dumped”. She was relentless with Ray Charles’ version of “Hit the Road Jack”; “Since You’ve Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson and Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” (personally, I prefer Cake’s cover of this track.). She refuses to give up with “It’s over” by Roy Orbison; Cry Me a River” by Aerosmith, “Picture to Burn” from Taylor Swift, and Johnny Cash’s “Hurt.

Tiny Tyrant came out of the woodwork (I’ve missed you!) and suggested Travis Tritt’s “Here’s a Quarter, Call Someone who Cares”.

Teagan Blackthorne refuses to be outdone by suggesting “I Hate Everything About You” by Three Days Grace and “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac.

peachsprojects made an appearance and asked for Bif Naked’s “I Love Myself Today” and “Tango Shoes”.

Teagan Blackthorne came back with Don’t Leave Me” by Blink 182 and “Back off Bitch by GNR.

peachsprojects bantered back with Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots Were Made For Walking”; “Why Don’t You Just Grow Up?” by James Keelaghan/Oscar Lopez; the metaphorical references in “Learning to Fly” by Pink Floyd; and “Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad” by Meatloaf.

James wanted to add “The Dance” by Garth Brooks.

JoeInVegas seconded the motion for “Hit the Road Jack” by Ray Charles.

James Willey had a second thought with “Blame It On Your Heart” by Patty Loveless.

UltimateSteve pulled out “(I Hate) Everything About You” by Ugly Kid Joe and “Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)” by Motley Crue.

Laura M has personal memories of “Forever” by Papa Roach.

April added “Running Away” and “Reasons” by Hoobastank.

rockinwithacockin (who has to win an award for the craziest screen name) came out strong with “Don’t Look Back in Anger” by Oasis; “Mr. Brightside” by local boys, The Killers; “Vindicated” by Dashboard Confessional and “Goodbye My Lover” by James Blunt.

I think James Willey apparently has some issues with his ex given his choice  – Die Motherf*cker Die by Dope.

rockinwithacockin was relentless with “With or Without You” from U2; “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake; “Everybody Loves a Loser” from Morcheeba. He even pulled out some Broadway action with “Cell Block Tango” from the Chicago soundtrack.

Ian had a sad moment and asked for Linda Ronstadt’s “Long Long Time”.

crysohara wanted Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” and  Neil Sedaka’s “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do”.

Daniella said one of her favorites is ‘Jude Law and a Semester Abroad’ by Brand New and nearly forgot “Untouchable Face (Fuck You)” by Ani DiFranco.

Sarah asked for the ever-popular “All by Myself” by Eric Carmen; “F.U.R.B by Frankee and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” by Deep Blue Something.

Sherrie came in with another request for Chris Issak’s “Wicked Game” and “I Used to Love Her (But I Had to Kill Her)” from Guns N Roses.

Hockeyman popped just long enough to wrap up the list with “So Long” by Guster.

So, that’s quite a list, eh?

And, as promised, the weiner, uh I mean, randomly selected winner of the $45 credit for all of the sex toys you can buy to drown your sorrows in self-love is….

peachsprojects with Bif Naked’s “I Love Myself Today”

Quite appropriate. Don’t you think?

Congrats to peachsprojects on a great suggestion! Thanks to edenfantasys.com for donating the prize.

Subway Redux

This was NOT my sandwich.

This was NOT my sandwich.

Remember a few weeks ago, when I wrote about the lovely stomach churning that followed my lunch at Subway? Just when I thought that the toilet was flushed on the subject, I received this fabulous letter from my new BFF Angie Reyes from Subway Development. I’m copying it in, grammar and punctuation errors and all.

Dear Ms Syzdek,

First, allow me to apologize. Secondly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to contact us and share your comments.

SUBWAY sets stringent regulation to be followed by each franchisee. The basic sandwich menu and food product formulas are standard throughout the chain, except where cultural variances may prohibit offering certain menu item within a particular country. The fresh vegetables included in your sandwich are part of the standard formula. If you feel ou would like more of a certain fresh vegetable, simply ask the sandwich artist for it.

Again, I appreciate you took the time and effort  to contact us.  Our customers provide us with valuable input, which we use to improve our operations.  I have shared your comments with the regional office in your area as well as the owner of the SUBWAY restaurant that you have visited.

Sincerely,

Angie Reyes

Ok Angie, let me set you straight on a few things.

1) I had a meatball sub. There were NO VEGETABLES on it.

2) I was unaware that making me puke had anything to do with cultural variances.

3) I won’t be asking for more vegetables, nor will I be chatting up your sandwich artists because I value my stomach lining.

4) I, too, am glad that I took the time to alert you to a possible public health issue. The fact that it took more than a week to get a response to my initial alert only to be dismissed by the person who finally called me back was one thing. Getting a letter the following month that illustrates that you have NO IDEA about what I complained about just tells me how much you really value your customer feedback.

5) Thanks for reinforcing my decision to stop patronizing your restaurants.
