Fear & Parenting in Las Vegas

Family fun in Sin City.

It’s all about the price of eggs

I was starting to think I was crazy. First it was soda. A 12-pack of diet coke or diet doctor pepper used to be two for $5 on sale. Now I’m lucky if I can get it for 2 for $7. Apparently AP’s caught on to the story.

Last week I noticed that everything is being sold as x quantity for y dollars. I’ve taken to checking out the per ounce cost of stuff (a nice feature at my local Albertson’s), but that only helps when I’m trying to figure out whether the name brand or the generic is the better deal or if buying the larger size is really a cost saver (a lot of times, it’s not).

I’ve started meal planning, trying to avoid wasting food, cooking and freezing ahead, etc. I’m down to shopping every other week, but I’m still not a big coupon-clipper. I usually buy store brands because it’s often cheaper than the name brand with the coupon. I’ve got enough crap in my wallet to keep track of.

Any other ideas out there folks? I’m starving (excuse the pun) for your suggestions.
