Bad Habit Friday (Installment II)
I’m catching up for another installment of Bad Habit Friday. I’ve been pretty bed-ridden for the last two days with a nasty flu and I’m just starting to feel human again. So, while I’m still feeling mildly craptacular, I’ll capitalize on my self-loathing and talk about bad habits.
My name is Marge and I’m addicted to reality TV. Homer hates it. It’s my guilty pleasure. I like to think that I’m not that bad. After all, I just watch:
Top Chef
Amazing Race
Project Runway
Ghost Hunters
Jon and Kate Plus 8
Ace of Cakes…crap, I do watch a lot of reality TV. This is just what I save on the DVR or TiVo. I’ve been known to channel surf my way through Supernanny, Keeping up with the Kardashians and The Girls Next Door among others.
What’s the appeal? I’ve always loved documentaries. I’ve always loved human-interest stories. I’m always looking into what makes people do what they do, whether that’s making a career of building cake or shacking up with an 80-something millionaire. I’m fascinated by how people deal with the challenges life throws at them. I think I have rough days with Boo and Doodle when they’re sick. After seeing how Jon and Kate dealt with a month-long flu epidemic that ran through their 10-member household, I realized how easy I have it.
There’s always that self-serving “at least I’m not THAT” bad component. When I see some of the parenting train wrecks shown on TV, I have hope that my kids’ therapy bills won’t exceed the cost of their college educations. But, who knows? Give it time.

I caught up on my own DVr’d (is that a verb now) cache o’crap tv last night. It included two episodes of Rock of Love (I’m pathetic) some CSI’s and CSI:Miami.
I should have cleaned the house, should have read for my classes starting Monday, should have worked up on my scrapbooks, but Brett Michaels and the skanky girls competing for his love captured my attention instead. *SIGH* I’m with you sister!
Thanks. I’m watching Kids by the Dozen - a show that used to make Homer scared that I would want more kids. Now it just makes him angry because he thinks it’s environmentally irresponsible. Yet another reason for him to bristle at my Reality TV addiction!
